Anthropogenic Hemorrhaging
A small body of work, Anthropogenic Hemorrhaging, is a series of American landscapes painted on mixed media paper solely in used motor oil. The frames are made from salvaged wood of an old growth pine tree, stained as well in used motor oil. The artwork’s impetus is an exploration between activism and artwork, as a means for raising awareness. They critique the continual negative effects of late-capitalism on the Earth, and the rendering of sublime throughout the history of painting. Employing methods like the sublime contributes towards the appreciation of nature’s beauty and its ominous forces, allowing the viewer to contemplate the landscape and the aesthetic effects of the used motor oil both on paper, and on the Earth.
